My parents decided to take the month of February off (freezing in NYC) and spend it in Thailand where it's warm.  My mother had never been to Thailand, but had several Israeli friends who went there after their stint in the IDF so she was excited to check it out herself.

However, it was a long flight that required a connection in Asia.  To further break up the flight, my mother asked to stop a few days somewhere in California since all that flying might be tough on her the baby, so we picked San Francisco.

The 6.5 hour United flight was much more peaceful than the ones earlier in the week from Tel Aviv to Istanbul to New York.

Shorter flight, more Americans passengers with a sense of order, working in-flight entertainment systems and my dad's free alcoholic drink coupons for hitting United Platinum status in 2013.

But nevertheless, it was still a pretty long flight and by the time we landed at SFO and claimed our luggage, we were starving because it was 9:30PM in New York and we forgot to eat dinner.  Being on so many international flights the past month, my parents got accustomed to getting meals on their flights.  But now they were back in the United States flying in domestic coach so no meal service.  Welcome back to America.

They got their rental car from Hertz (even after they cancelled my father's rental car booking after not showing up for his 3PM reservation even though it was clearly made online for 7PM) and drove immediately to get their favorite California meal.
